Hi,
For years my Garmin 2610 has given this location for my condo;
N34 25.197 W118 31.841

I just checked Google/Earth and found this;
34 27 02 N 118 29 52.86 W

Why the difference? Which is more accurate?

Thanks,

Mogur

Which datum is your GPS receiver set to?

I just checked the manual, but do not see any reference to datum choices (PDF
manual,
search "data". So I presume it is what ever Garmin uses as the default.

Just checked my 2610 against the image of my car on GE

2610: xx.yy.31.9 xx.yy.38.8 elev 146m
GE: xx.yy.32.0 xx.yy.38.7 elev 146m

I think it's been reported previously that the images in GE are from
various sources and some are more accurate than others for positioning;
also mismatches can occur at joint lines between the images.

To carry out a datum/units change you have to download to Mapsource.

I am not familiar with your Garmin model (2610), but anyway the word
is "datum", not "data". There is a difference. Here is a good place
to read about datums:

http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/measure.htm#datums

But anyway, I downloaded the manual for the StreetPilot 2610 and had a
look, and the word "datum" is indeed not present in the manual.
Strange.

Oh, by the way, please don't top post. It breaks up the conversation.

FWIW, I have checked a couple locations that are familiar to me
(including one in the US) using google maps, and I find that the
results are consistent with the WGS-84 datum. I'd be surprised if the
StreetPilot uses another datum, particularly as this is the datum
"native" to GPS. Is it possible that you have read the coordinates
off google maps wrong? Do you live where Plum Canyon Rd ends at
Bouquet Canyon Rd? Or on Soledad Canyon Rd?
