If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
When I download and install the latest updates from the Garmin
website, what is installed?
-- modified software, or,
-- modified and new maps, or
-- both?
On Mon, 25 Feb 2008 20:10:03 -0800 (PST), "Kickin' Ass and Takin'
AFAIK new/modified software (for your units and sometimes for your
PC), but not map updates - last time I looked these could not be
downloaded, and definitely not for free.

The online download is a firmware update only. No map updates.

Thanks -- as I suspected.
So -- how do I update maps? I doubt that maps need to be updated with
great frequency but it would be nice to have, say, an annual update.
For example, a Holiday Inn Express motel and a Wal-Mart opened in a
town near me about 8 months ago. The Garmin database does not show
either of them or the access streets that were built off the main
road.

When an update becomes available you pay the man $$$$$$.
