How is this going to work?

If I hook up a Vista Cx, and dump a bunch of maps from one of the MapSource
locked products to the uSD card can I stick that card into as many units as
I want and use those maps on units that are not associated with the maps?
And since it is just a memory card can it be duplicated so that everyone can
have a copy? Or is something done to the maps when they are put on the
card? Just curious. I don't have any "locked" map products, they're too
expensive, but I am getting a Vista Cx. :) I haven't heard any discussion
about this.

Bob

No.

My guess is that it won't even be read by the 2nd GPS unless unlocked.

IMHO, you should be able to use it on as many devices as you wish, just
as long as you are only using it on on device at a time. We went
through this years ago in the PC software arena. Copy protection
methods were rejected by the public. Only competition will force
companies from using this practice. Microsoft and Garmin can get alway
with it because of few alternatives elsewhere. I understand that
Magellan does not have the same constraints on map usage.

I suspect that the GPSr will be looking for a map set that includes a
code that ties them (the maps) to that particular GPSr.

Your understanding is incorrect. Magellan licenses its locked maps
for one GPS unit. Garmin licenses its maps for two. Some GPS companies
may license their maps for more.
