I was about to purchase the Garmin Metroguide Australia but then noticed
that it hasn't been updated since 2002. What a crock of shit. I guess
I'll have to make do with my downloaded copy of Worldmap. Garmin will
not get one red cent from me until they stop overcharging (e.g. serial
to USB patch cable for $60!!) and selling outdated products for megabucks.

I know the OP was about Oz...

But, here in the US, I have a positive Garmin experience.

Both of the new versions of City Select and Delorme Street Atlas
were released around the same time. In 5+ places just around my local
area CS has them, Delorme doesn't. SA was **years** behind. I was VERY
disappointed and returned SA.

A 2002 map at any price is a lot better than a 1945 map from the World
CD

I have a great deal of sympathy for Garmin cartography after selling
my maps for 18ths or so.

Accurate data and the time to make maps costs a huge amount when
compared to available market - the funny difference between a digital
map and a paper map is that everyone expects a free update of a
digital map but never ask Hema for an update of the paper map :)

Regarding the downloaded Worldmap - do you also shoplift paper maps
from your local garage?

The Worldmap maps are not that old AFAIK. Mine even has main streets
built in the last 15 years.

What?

Completely off topic comment. But you may be interested to learn that
paper maps are updated every year and rarely cost more than $20, not $200.

I don't steal things from shops where people are selling things, but if
someone posts some bits 'n bytes on a public forum, I'll make a copy,
sure. It's like picking something up in the street. Thanks, but I'm not
interested in debating the moral rights and wrongs of digital copyright
with a Garmin shill.
