I know I have asked before about this and had the problem solved by
other means, so really the real probelm has not been addressed.

Mapsource can export in a few formats, and import in others.

Though there may be a couple of commonalities - so it can import that
which has been exported - but there isn't an easy way to import a
formatted text file.

I am working on a project and I have a swag of lat/long data and
would like to get it into mapsource.

Without forking out money and buying some program/s I would prefere
to learn how to make a formatted text file which mapsource will
import.

Searching the net, I am finding little help on how to do this.

Even Garmin are not forthcoming with information which is further
hindering my efforts.

Can anyone help me with how to convert this text file to a file which
Mapsource can import?

Many thanks in advance.

Since you are unwilling to buy a solution, you will have to build
one yourself. Saying nothing about the format of your data, you can
expect little specific help in return. Third-party programs already
convert dozens of formats, but your chances of hitting one of them
by chance are mighty slim.

You have not looked hard enough at what Garmin has forthcoming. Get
their schema for GPX at
and get busy. You can find a small amount of tutorial help at the
Topografix URL mentioned there.

Frank, sorry for the lack of info in the posting.

I don't understand why I should buy for a program to do a simple
format conversion.

The frustrating part is not knowing the format/syntax.

I'll look at the link below and thanks for it.

Well, I had tried looking but sometimes we all miss the obvious
things.

Because someone has put time and effort into creating such a program
and they have decided they want some recompense for doing so? It *is*
simple and you *could* roll your own but, I for one preferred to make
a one off payment for GPSU (which includes any future updates) to
handle such dirty work for me. I have better ways of spending my time
than re-inventing the wheel.

Gomez,

I don't dispute this, but what I don't understand is the attitude.

I want to learn what is going on - read my other new post - and do it
myself.

Yeah, maybe re-inventing the wheel, but it is helping me learn
something.

Buying a program someone wrote doesn't really teach me what I want to
learn - though it does help my fiscal knowledge. :(
