I have a question regarding the accuracy of the Garmin 76S. I have
loaned the unit to a friend who needed it for a couple of weeks to do
audits on cell phone towers. The readings that he is given by his
company are the same as those list listed in the FCC tower registry.
My friend went to the site the readings were off compared to the FCC
filings. Here is an example. He was given the street address and was
able to find the site with no problem. The FCC readings are 41.4197
and -81.7134. The readings from the GPS are 41.25171 and -81.42819.
This is miles off. What are we doing wrong? Does the unit need to be
calibrated? How about a hard reset? If so how do we do a hard rest as
I am not sure of the buttons to hold when the power is turned on.
Wrong. Your measurement is 41 deg 25.171 min -81 deg 42.819.
You need to read up on degrees/ minutes/ seconds. 1 deg=60 min. 1 min=60
sec.
41.4197 deg=41 deg 25.182 min
81.7134 deg=81 deg 42.804 min
The right hand sides are within the expect accuracy of your readings.
(It would be a good idea to pay attention to decimal points.)
