Garmin released Ver. 3.20 for the GPSMAP76CSx yesterday. Unfortunately,
having upgraded the GPS firmware, the new version has at least one serious
problem...

The "City Navigator Europe NT v9" postal-code lookup facility, accessed from
within "FIND/Addresses", is terminally broken. Any attempt to lookup a UK
postcode results in immediate shut-down of the GPS (i.e., it crashes!).

The unit can be restarted a few seconds after the crash - the searched-for
postcode is then listed in "FIND/Recent Find". Again, attempting to access
a postcode listed in "Recent Find" causes the unit to crash.

Version 3.10, before upgrading to v3.20 worked fine. Re-flashing the GPS to
v3.10 resolves the crash problem, however, the unit suffers a complete reset
losing all saved setings and data.

Problem reported to Garmin Tech Support, however, no response has been
received.

This is working for me with CN Europe NT v9 in my 76CSx that has 3.20
loaded.

I entered E15 4 in the city field (postcode in London) and randomly
selected a street an number without a problem.

*Exactly* what are you entering?

I'm entering FULL postcodes in the City field (such as SN5 8YW - this
example happens to be a random address in Swindon) which fully identifies
the postcode to street level - then selecting a known street number (such
as 16) in the Number field. The GPS happily offers a list of possible
matches from which to select. Selecting anything results in an immediate
crash (the screen just fades-out over about one second) and doesn't even
offer the Save/Map/Goto options.

The 76CSx is a US version, preloaded with the US basemap. The memory card
is a Sandisk 1GB, loaded with CN Europe NT UK maps (about 130MB in total).

I even tried reloading map data from Mapsource (just in case the new
card-driver was fussy) - but the fault persists. Reverting to 3.10 clears
the problem and restores "normal" operation (but clears all data and
configuration - except data on the Micro-SD). Reload 3.20 and the fault
returns!

Which results in

Frankland Road
SN5 8YW

Which it also did on my unit.

The same.

So what's different?
