The Sony Walkman has come a long way, baby. Yesterday's revolutionary
portable cassette player is today's technologically advanced
smartphone.

On Sunday, Sony Ericsson debuted the W760, a Walkman-branded phone
with tri-band HSDPA and Quad-band EDGE wireless connectivity,
embedded GPS hardware, and a host of multimedia capabilities. The
introduction occurred-naturally-at this year's Consumer
Electronics Show, being held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sony didn't provide specs on the W760's GPS hardware, but did say
that the phone comes with Wayfinder's Navigator software installed,
and access to Google Maps. Its version of Navigator has more than 20
million points of interest around the globe and features
speech-enabled navigation directions, according to Sony Ericsson. It
also boasts a GPS-supported fitness application called Tracker.

Among its other features are:

o 2.2-inch display; 320 pixel by 240 pixel resolution (landscape-mode
capable)
o 3.2-megapixel camera with video recording
o music file playback through onboard stereo speakers
o video streaming and file playback
o Bluetooth stereo wireless support
o WiFi connectivity
o USB connectivity
o 3D games; Need for Speed ProStreet preloaded
o Java support
o e-mail, picture and text-messaging apps
o 40Mbytes of onboard memory
o Memory Stick Micro flash memory card slot.

The W760 will be available in selected markets in Q2, according to
Sony Ericcson; the company didn't specify a suggested retail price.
