I have a question related to the settings available when setting up the
track logging options on the Garmin 76S. If anyone has any suggestions
- much appreciated::

In the track log setup menu, what is the frequency (time? distance?) of
automatic track point logging under the AUTOMATIC setting?

Thx in advance

David

From my online manual

Generally, in automatic mode, it will enter a trackpoint when you have
turned more than 25 meters (82 feet) from a straight line projection
from you last point or you have significantly changed the speed from the
last entry. Using these two criteria allows the Garmin to accurately map
your journey, however it becomes difficult to judge exactly how much
data can be collected before the tracklog becomes full.

Dale:

Thx for the info. Always nice to understand the details. I'll stick
with the .01km option in order to establish as many datapoints as
possible while hiking.

Not long ago there were a number of comments on this newsgroup about
excessively frequent logging by the 60CS/76CS which occurred with one or
two of the firmware revisions. As I recall, they corrected it in a later
revision. I recommend that you make sure you have the latest firmware.
You should be able to locate the thread with groups.google.com if
interested.

<snip>

If you really want 'as many as possible', ISTR that if you set the
distance units to 'yards' (menu, setup, units), you can then set the
track interval to anything down to 0.01 of a yard (don't try that at
home children) and it will stay there when you reset the distance to
metric .. I've certainly had it set to 3 yards (you get a LOT of
trackpoints .. you can overflow the 10k limit on a reasonably long
walk).
