Last week on a roundtrip drive between San Francisco and Portland, OR,
I discovered that my GPS suddenly stopped receiving signal around the
state border. The screen stopped demonstrating the map and
demonstrated the list of movements instead. These eventually cut off,
as well.

No power problems. Once we got sttled for the night in Grant's Pass,
OR, I "solved" the problem by hitting the "reset" button. The error
message that I got before I made the reset was "area excluded".

So far as I know, I was not in the area of any high-security stuff.
The unit worked throughout our time in the Portland area, but, on the
way home (southbound), the same thing happened, although not in the
*exact* place.

Anybody have any ideas as to the cause of this problem? Magellan
merely told me to push the reset button....

Best,

Bob

Oops.....now you know TOO much.
Watch your back!

j/k ......but that is certainly what it sounds like.

It is unforgivable that Magellan doesn't display a simple message "Satellite
signal lost" when that happens instead of switching to a different screen
without telling you WHY and, I believe, without explaining that in the users
manual either.

I recently took my 4250 into a different vehicle and thought it was broken
because the map kept coming and going. Only after screwing with it off and
on for an hour did I realize what the problem really was and moving it to a
different location within the vehicle "fixed" it.
GRrrrrrr.
