I have an eTrex Legend with one bicycle mount. This mounting bracket
will also fit my other bicycle, canoe thwart, etc. I would like to get
additional mounts without paying for the associated battery cover for
each of them. I have sent an email to Garmin asking about this and they
did not have the customer relations courtesy to even respond.

Does anyone in this group know where the mount might be available
separate from the battery cover?

Dan,

You can use an Emap handlebar mount. It costs only $5 at TVNAV.com. The
part that mounts on the handlebar appears to be the same for any Garmin
GPS units that I've seen. I bougth extra mounts for my Vista. They also
work for the 76CS which I've since upgraded to.

Or you could just get two bits of elastic, and tie them to your
handlebars, and slip your etrex in when you head out. Works great,
particularly if you're just datalogging anyway. Do you really need to
see the screen _while_ you're riding? (maybe you do, in which case,
ignore my suggestion)

has an even cheaper, though not quite as rugged version. Works fine
for making tracklogs of local bikeways, but probably not for mountain
biking.

Cheers,

I definitely want to see the screen since my GPS has replaced my
previous bike cyclometer with speed/odometer/average functions in
addition to displaying my position on the map.
I just use a couple rubber bands looped under the stem of my bicycle and
around the top and bottom parts of the GPS receiver. Holds it nice and
secure (either of the bands can break without the GPS coming loose, and
even if both were to break, the lanyard is still looped around the
handlebars).
This system has now been in use for about 35000 miles and over 5 years.

Yeah, more like

I just didn't have the bike handy yesterday. I guess you've got yours
oriented normally, and probably with more strategically placed elactic.
Works pretty damn well though I must say. And damn cheap.
