windshield vs. dash mount

I have a Magellan Roadmate 700 with a windshield mount. The suction
cup that attaches to the windshield came loose from the rest of the
mount. I've glued it once which held for several months. But now it
has become loose again and I need to replace it. Is it better to get
another dash mount or are the dash mounts better?

I use a vent mount for my 700.

Probably the best choice is the three-footed dash mount. The mount has
weighted feet which can be molded to the shape of the dashboard. This
avoids problems with California and Minnesota laws against attaching
anything to the windshield. Here is a picture from the Magellan website:
