If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
I do a lot of off road driving. The Track Log feature maps the
trails I have used. I would like to somehow use that data and
make it always appear on the display map so I can see where the
trails are as I drive around.
I have the Track Log data that I would like displayed saved to a file.
I can view it on my Magellan GPS -- but only temporarily. I have to
revert back to the regular mode to see where I am going on the map.
Does anybody know how I can add this data somewhere (like to a
background map or detail map)? Or is there a way to activate a
saved Track Log and make it the active Track Log? If I could do
that, I could just continue adding "breadcrumbs" to it and I would
be able to see the old "breadcrumbs."
I have an eXplorist XL. MapSend DirectRoute and Mapsend Topo 3D.

Have you tried converting your tracks to routes ? There's an option
you should see when you 'click' on your track called: "Convert to Route".
Routes can be saved and loaded when needed. Routes appear over top of your
active display. They're there full time as you use the device.
I have "permanent" trails on my Explorits and Meridan GPS displays that I
recorded and then added to the MapSend Topo database. You need 1 piece of
extra software.
Look at : http://www.msh-tools.com/addmagmap/index.html
Add MagMap allows you to add a lot of self-generated info to the Magellan
Topo USA 3D database. In turn, you can then use the Topo dtabase normally
to create "regions" including those features and download them to your GPS.
I have added trail systems to my Magellan GPS displays, as well as property
boundaries and changed the color shading of nature preserve parcels not on
the original GPS maps. If this is what you want to do, then AddMagMap will
work fine.
I found that by recording my trails at a high level of detail ( set the
distance between data points to .01km, for example) the resulting trails are
fairly close (accurate) at high magnifications.

Pieter, you are the man! This program is exactly what I need.
It takes a little while to figure out this program but it's
pretty easy when you do.
I added my trails to my Topo detail map. I can use future
track logs to add even more trails. Very cool!
I can't wait to hit the trails.

glad to be of help. Another news group I monitor reports a problem of the
track name being repeated very frequently when it is displayed on the GPS
screen after processing with AddMagMap. I'd be curious if you too have this
problem. The solution (so far) is to give the saved track file a very short
name. I'll look into it further - I don't seem to have the problem with
mine. Maybe because I never assigned a name to the trail at all? Dunno....
Anyway - glad to be of help and thank our russian friends at msh-tools.
