I've got a Magellan Explorist 400 that works good but as I read about
Magellan (and Thales, I'm beginning to wonder if it's time to go get
something different. The Explorist works good at this point and for the
use I put it to, is not a bad unit.
The operative question is, do I replace it or keep it until it dies. I
just got a mailing on the new DeLorme PN-20 GPS with a bundle package.
I'm looking for opinions. I realize that this is a Magellan forum but I
was unable to find a DeLorme forum and I'm not big on cross posting.
Thanks.

I also have an eXplorist 400, which works pretty well with the Mapsend
direct Route v2 software. At my age, I suspect it will do for as long
as I plan to drive. Should it die before that, I will probably switch
to another company as Magellan doesn't seem to be going anywhere
definable these days.

I've got a 500. The main thing I worry about is Magellan folding
before my warranty expires 8 months from now. After than, I'll
be mildly concerned about not being able to get Topo map updates.
I don't think they're going nowhere... They just introduced a new
line of in-car units called Maestro that look interesting. One
model has voice command. You can control it without taking your
hands off the wheel.
Whether they succeed or not is another story.

trying to capitalize on the in-car use and may be moving resource and
money to that and not doing much with the handheld units. Such a shame
but this seems to be a issue with a lot of companies.
