Hello all,

My parents got the Roadmate 300 as a gift few years back and they
accidentally formated the machine and they can't seem to find the
original application to install the default maps. I've gone through
Megellan's website and haven't been able to find the application
manager. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get that
application so I can install the maps. I'm being given the GPS unit
and I don't know how to get anything on there.
I've read that you can also install maps via SD card? I've
also read that you may need to unlock it or get a code from the
website? Can someone explain how this might work? I found a copy of
the basemap online which I was hoping could be uploaded to a regular
expandable SD card. Any suggestions or tutorial help before attempting
this, I did not want to brick the unit before getting some answers
from the experts. Thank you

stylez03,
I hope you don't mind my writing directly to your email. I hesitate to
post a reply to your request on the newsgroup. So many will only take
my email address and later I find myself receiving spam.
I have the roadmate 300 and the 3 CD's that came with the GPS. You will
also need a AC power supply and a USB cable connecting betweeen computer
and the 300. If you have a laptop and can work from your car, you may
be able to get by without the ac power supply. The CD's include the
manual, application and maps for downloading to the GPS. The manual
should be read completely in order to further understand the workings of
the 300. You are correct, you can add SD memory if you don't already
have a SD memory card installed. My 300 came with I believe a 128Meg SD
memory in additional internal memory. I have a 1GB SD memory installed.
This allows much of the eastern US, NW US and western Canada loaded
into memory.
I write to you and offer help in the order of sending copies of the 3
CD's that came with the Road Mate 300. I have no interest in making
money but do expect payment for shipment and duplication of the CD's.
I have made this same off to at least 3 other owners of the 300 without
the software. My offer was accepted by these 3 owner.
If interested please send $15:00 to
