I need the software to the Magellan 4000... My daughter just recieved
this for a graduation present and I accidentally deleted the software
thinking it was the SD card I had deleted..... can any one help me
out?
Thank you
After upgrading to a newer model, I wondered why they stopped showing the SD
card through the GPS when connected to a computer. Maybe mistakes like
yours partly explains the change of operation. On the 4250, you must load
the SD card with an external card reader.
So, on to your problem. The sad story probably is: You're screwed.
One of the things you deleted is the operating system driver that allows the
GPS to communicate with it's USB port. Without that communication link, you
can't put anything back into it, even if you had a copy of all the files.
The GPS is just a little computer running Windows CE. Imagine for a minute
trying to reload Windows to your desktop computer, to a blank hard drive, if
your only way "in" was through a serial port. Hint: you can't do it.
Now, when you connect it to your computer, does it still show up as a
removable drive?
If not, your only recourse is to call Magellan for warranty service.
It was "dead out of the box", wasn't it ??
Of course you could try to find out where it was purchased and see if there
is a "gift receipt" but then you would probably have to admit to your
....... mistake.
Good luck.
And the moral of the story is.................??? ;-)

Thanks for the reply... I will most likely need to send it back - but
I do see the 4000 as a removable drive... I have another 4000 that I
copied all of the software from. It now works but it askes for the map
info on the SD card - I have tried many variables both on the HDD and
SD cards but still cant make it funtional with the map... any more
ideas?
Thanks again for the reply....

The map info. file resides on the main unit, not the SD card, for all of the
Maestro series.
I didn't think the files were coded or serialized to prevent copying but
maybe they ARE.
Your experience would tend to indicate that they are somehow protected.
The moral of the story is, of course, when dealing with anything with
software on it, make a backup copy of ALL the files when it is new and after
each successful upgrade.........before tinkering around with any files. ;-)
If you want to take one more shot at fixing it yourself or just to get more
info. have a look here:

Look for other folks who have made similar mistakes with other Maestro
models.
Some have made a successful recovery but not many.
