I just received this and have been evaluating it for use within our utility
district. So far it is okay, but not great or even "very good."
The street address input seems very limited. For instance, our business
address is 2129 North Coast Highway, Newport, OR 97365.
North Coast Highway in Newport is U.S. Highway 101.
I can't get it to accept that address as a destination to route to. There
doesn't seem to be an intuitive alternative I've found.
Perhaps someone out there can point out something I'm missing.
Also, I've removed the sill rubber jacket. It is a cosmetic embarrassment.
The windshield mount is disappointing because the unit won't swivel.

The problem is the way your representing your address. It is N. Coast
Highway, not North Coast Highway. The "North" part is not part of the
road name, but rather the part of the "Coast Highway" north of whatever
centerline was chosen when the town was platted.
With the Crossover (and I assume all other Magellan road navigation
products), you do not need to enter the N , S, E or W designations, in
fact you cannot enter them.
I entered your zip code, selected the city, then started entering Coast.
The unit presented me a list of streets starting with COA just after I
entered the A. On the list is N. Coast Hwy. Also on the list is S. Coast
Hwy, Sw. Coast Hwy, Nw. Coast St and Sw. Coast St.
Do you eat more often at the Subway, the Sizzler or the Safeway Deli?
I agree about the green rubber thing. It's ugly. I would only use it if
I was trying to navigate outdoors. As for the mount, the one that came
with mine tilts up and down and swivels left and right. The suction cup
also seems to stick quite well, assuming you get it wet and push it on
pretty hard.
Hope all that helps some.

Thank You, David! I think I tried everything but the obvious. That sure did
work for me! Actually, the Subway moved to a new building about .75 miles
south on the East Side of Hwy 101 (North Coast Highway). The Sizzler is
pretty good... Chuckle.
The thing about the mount that disappoints me is that the head doesn't
swivel the way the Garmin units do. I don't know why it bothers me, but it
does. The suction cup is incredible, though! I generally slide a key-card
under it once I have released the lever. This makes releasing the unit
really smooth.
I have big fingers and have a very hard time with the touch screen. I find
that using a plastic ball point pen body (remove the ink cartridge) is a lot
easier and more accurate. I just have it tied to the windshield mount... I
may add a bit of velcro if the unit becomes dedicated to a single vehicle.
Thanks again for your help!

OK, I see what your saying, the swivel part of the mount is closest to
the suction cup, followed by the up and down part, instead of the other
way around. I can see where the other way around would be a bit better.
I too love the suction cup, that thing sticks like glue and the unit
hardly bounces around on our really bad roads.

I've been using the spare stylus that came with my Nintendo DS touch
screen. You can pick up those at Amazon (and probably many other places)
for a few dollars. I wish Magellan had done what Nintendo did, and Palm
does, and provided a stylus and a storage place for it.

Here is the body of a private message I received in response to my initial
posting. I have also attached my response. The author validates your
suggestion. You may find the distance discrepancies quite interesting.
********************************
This was sent to Whit...
I just gave that address a try in my 2500T and it works fine. Try as
David said using the Coast Hwy as the initial search. I did "Street
Address", "Search by Zip Code", enter "97365", select "Newport 97365",
enter "C...O...A..." it jumps to list and select "N. Coast Hwy",
select it and then your address 2129. It routes me West on 126, then
right on the 101 North 14 miles and you are on the Right hand side of
the the road. You are 969 miles from me.
Whit's answer...
You and David are right! I had tried the "real name" of the Highway (US
101), "North Coast" (and couldn't get past Norman Street!)... I tried
everything except "Coast!"
On another subject, you say your Crossover routed you West on US Hwy 126
(Florence-Eugene Highway) that runs from Eugene, OR to Florence, OR... Then
has you turn right on US 101 north for 14 miles... That concerns me. The
Crossover shows the intersection of Hwy 101 and Hwy 126 to be approximately
51 Miles south of my location using the "Shortest Distance" function.
Traveling 14 miles south of my address would put me in Waldport, OR on US
101.
