Hi,
I'm the proud new owner of the Maestro 4050 but have a question or 2 to ask.
I spent a lot of $$$ for this unit
but now have some concerns about getting good info regarding it. Perhaps
someone could be kind enough to assist me. Thank you in advance.

First question regards the mount/cradle. When I reach my destination, I
prefer to immediately remove it from the cradle, while leaving the cradle
still attached to the window. How-ever, removing the GPS unit from the
cradle is no easy task as I am left groping w/o a good view of the button
that needs to be pushed to release the unit. A major/clumsy ordeal indeed.
With that being said, which replacement cradle could I purchase either from
eBay or MountGuys.com (or anywhere else) that would make it easier/quicker
to remove the gps from it's cradle? Hate to buy something that ends up as
being as inconvenient (or even worse) than the factory cradle, thus I am
asking for your friendly advice :-).

Also, regarding the vent mount cradles, it does appear to be a great idea,
if only because it does keep the unit out of view from the windshield,
how-ever, would the hot/cold air flow onto the back of the unit damage it? A
concern of mine, obviously.

Last question, in order to turn on the voice prompter, it is instructed that
I merely call out 'Magellan" loudly at the unit. How-ever, that doesn't seem
to activate the unit. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you in Advance!

I bought a Magellan Maestro 4000 a little over a month ago and quickly
decided that I wasn't going to use the suction cup window mount for
the same reasons you mention, plus the fact that it is, plain and
simply, a monstrosity. I first tried a vent mount, but sent it back
because it was so flimsy and positioning the GPS unit was difficult.
I wound up spending a few bucks and bought one of these:

I love it. I have my GPS perched on the "tunnel" ahead of the center
armrest console... out of direct sight of the prying eyes of passers
by when the vehicle is parked.

Hi, I can't visualize as to how this cradle would fit to the center of the
seat-console unit, I have a Civic "06" and not sure if it would fit
correctly, any better pictures or description available by chance?

Thanks!

It probably won't work with your Civic in that fashion, then. I drive
a SUV that doesn't have a dashboard "center stack" that flows from the
dash right into the center console. Rather, I have the old fashioned
transmission "hump" in front of me where I can set things like this.

On the other hand, this particular mount is very heavy and the three
"feet" are bendable/flexible so that they will adjust to most any
surface. I wouldn't hesitate to set this thing right up on top of the
dash, either.

Hope this helps.

Mark

The 4050 has voice activation. It also has local road alerts if you pay
the subscription.

Try sying Magellan in a clear voice slower than you might use it in a
conversation. When it responds, wait a second or two before responding.
Then say "Home" and see if it confirms the response. Give it another
second or two befor saying "yes".

Works every time for me...

chuck...
