I cannot figure out why the campgrounds don't show up using the mapsend topo
3d with my sportrak pro. I uploaded all the POI's and Map for a region to
the Gps. The old software mapsend topo ver.4 had campgrounds listed, and
uploaded to my sportrak pro in the POI's. Any way to do this or did they do
away with this ? Thanks in advance

Well Dave, I can't resist an experiment. I generated a region in MapSend
Topo 3D USA and I was sure to check ALL the POI possibilities in the
"Options"->POI menu. I assume this should have loaded any canpground info
into my Meridian Color (I use a card programmer not a cable connection).
Like you, when I checked the POIs on the GPS for the region, no campgrounds!
It was, I believe, the only type of POI that didn't make the trip. So it's
not just you or your SporTrak Pro. It's got something to do with MapSend
Topo 3D USA.

Like you I am baffled. Maybe its time to start a support group........

Dave:

My research continues, and I have found an answer, but not a very
satisfactory one.

I was in error when I said (below in 1st message) that "campgrounds" seem to
be the only type of POI missing from the list. In fact, in my part of the
world (upstate NY) we don't have "oil wells" or "glaciers", and both those
POI types, while listed in the POI list in MapSend Topo 3dUSA (see
"options"->"POI") are missing from the GPS as well as campgrounds. So are
several other types of POI which we don't experience around here.

From this I deduce that if a type of POI has no data points, it doesn't
appear on the GPS list of POIs. Thus since we have no "oil wells" here, the
"oil well" type doesn't appear on the GPS list of POIs. Pretty
straightforward so far.

So if I extend the above reasoning to cover the case of "campgrounds", I can
deduce that there are no campgrounds in the POI database for Topo 3D USA
because there is no "campground" POI type on the GPS POI type list.

Here's the unsatisfactory part - there are hundreds of campgrounds in
upstate NY. I am only a few miles from the Adirondack mountains, and I know
there are several around my home town, and probably hundreds in the region I
defined. But not one shows up on the GPS? I would gather from this that
the MapSend POI database is very incomplete. By the way, my local hospital,
which is very full service and employs 2,000 people, is also missing! Don't
you think they might want to include all the hospitals on a GPS !!!

I wonder if there is a vendor for more complete POI lists to import somehow?

Hope this helps.

Now I am frazled . I tried a similar experiment - opened up the old version
4 topo usa, uploaded the poi's same region to the sportrak I did with the
topo 3d earlier, when I turned it on their I once more had campgrounds.
Maybe a good time to contact the company for some kind of support , or like
you said start our own.

Well the saga continues - I went to MapSend Topo3D USA and tried the
"search" function. I then selected NY as the state and "campgrounds" as the
category. With no search string I should have seen the beginning of an
alpabetical list of all campgrounds in NY state. There were none, so there
is no such data in MapSend Topo 3D USA as feared.
I'll go look for lists of POIs that might be downloaded.
