Profits are down so they blame saturation? That's a laugh. I'm very
pleased with my TomTom as a device but not as far as value for money
goes. I feel cheated, they unit has the potential to deliver far more
(it only requires software for heaven's sake!) and yet it doesn't.
With satnav appearing on so many other devices the dedicated unit will
have to bundle a whole load of new features to compete.

If it only needs some software, why not beat TomTom to it and write your own
program? You could even sell a few copies and get paid for your time.

Though I do write web development software I don't think my skills are
sufficient to write apps for the Tom Tom. But the TomTom does run on
Linux and the open tom project is producing apps for the device.
