Is there any restriction on sending a 13 year old living in Holland
a Magellan GPS purchased in the USA. I gave him a digital compass
last year and his mom tells me he carries it everywhere he goes.
I figure he is ready for an eXplorist 100.

Thanks

mike

I have no idea about potential US export restrictions, but for what it's
worth the same GPS is sold in the Netherlands:

There may also be some import duties if you send it from the US. Of
course if you haven't bought it yet you could arrange to have a European
shop send it.

I hope this helps a little.

Wow! Those things are expensive over there!
About half the quoted price here and it speaks Dutch.
Thanks for your input, that was helpful.
Now, what is the Dutch word for "English" so I can mine again :)

Yeah, a combination of 19% sales tax, a weak dollar, and plain old
different markets, I suppose. Nevertheless, with shipping and import
duties it may still cheaper be to buy this one.

The Dutch word for 'English' is 'Engels', but I suspect that Dutch web
designers are smart enough to use the word 'English' to indicate the
English version :-)

Moreover, the people at the shop I quoted almost certainly speak

Alternatively, since there are no import duties within Europe, and
shipping within Europe is fairly cheap, you could try large
English-language shops like <amazon.co.uk>, <amazon.de>, <play.com>, or
<bol.com> (warning: I didn't check if these shops even sell GPS-es.)

Good luck with your mission :-)

It would be fine should he visit the US and need to get around, but he
will need a European basemap. Order him one from Europe online, for
delivery in Holland. He should love it.
