Hi,

Anyone know if its possible to wire a tomtom 2 wired gps unit to a pc?

I'd assume the signal out of it is standard serial so i should just be
able to plug it in through some convertor and go ??
Not sure about power to the unit though Im guessing 2 of the pins send
5V.

If no one knows of a device, or a way to do it does anyone have a
pinout of the 4 pin RJ11 connector thats on the lead so i can try to
make a connector?

Thanks,
Sam

This from TomTom may help you out (I believe that +5V is available on the mouse
port so a google search should give you
the info on that side)

Thanks for your email.
First we like to apologize for the late reply

PIN Signal Name
A1   Ground
A2   Tx  (Data Output)
A3   Rx  (Data Input)
A4   Vcc (Power)

By the fact that there are only really two interfaces worth worrying about,
Sirf and NMEA, and tomtom refuses to accept standard Sirf, it's a fair
assumption that neither Sirf nor NMEA comes out of the antenna that tomtom
normally accepts as the "non NMEA antenna", i.e. the branded antenna that I
believe is based on a sirf chipset.

If you have one, you can try connecting to it with navigator or somesuch.

Ask if you haven't got that. It's free.

Ah,

Someone pointed me at acompany (www.semsons.com) via email who have
supplied a little cable that interfaces the TomTom wired to the PC no
problem.. but from what you are saying its not going to be possible to
talk to it in any case.

By navigator do you mean tomtom navigator? I have v2 but its the PDA
version (came with the reciever) but i dont have a PDA to use it with
making it unusable for me. If its a PC verison then a link or any info
would be most appreciated..

Thanks for the reply,

sam

More details on the cable please.
I can't seem to find it on Semson's site.
