Hi there,
Sorry but I really haven't managed to understand something re the nuvi
maps.
I just bought a 660TFM in France. This came pre-installed with NT9
Europe. However, I'd like to plan my route on the PC and then
download it to the 660. Where do I get the PC maps from as I find
nothing on the installation DVD? I have the yellow slip with my
unlock code - is that for the GPS unit only?

thanks for your patience,
John

The Mapsource program and PC versions of the maps aren't shipped with the
Nüvi range (or at least, I didn't receive them with either my Nüvi 310 or
Streetpilot C510). Garmin's argument seems to be that they're of no use to
you, because you can't download a Route from the PC to the Nüvi.

People in North America have had success in getting the maps from Garmin
F.O.C., but Garmin Europe have a different policy. If you were to acquire
the map DVD, the code from the Yellow slip would allow it be used on your
PC.

1. You do not need map installed on computer to send the route to Nuvi. It
just doesn't have the option and it can auto-route without the help of PC.
StreetPilot and few other models have the option to create a specific route
then transfer to GPS, but not with Nuvi.

With Nuvi, you can either create and tranfer Waypoint, but you can do
directly from Nuvi itself.

2. *If* you want to use the software to create Waypoint or PRINT out the
route, then you can.

        - Either call Garmin to ask them to send you the DVD with map. I read
they don't send the free DVD in Europe countries.

        - Or you can brorrow the DVD from friend where you live or friend from
         Peer-2-Peer network.

You can not preplan routes on your PC and transfer those routes to a Nuvi.
Only waypoints/Favorites can be transferred.

Thanks a lot to you all for the help. Must say I'm a bit disappointed
by that, I just assumed that it was something that I could do like
viamichelin.com. I bought the Nuvi for it s "neatness", but bearing
in mind the limited information available on the (rather expensive I
thought) France travel guide, I might have made a mistake. It's all
very well saying that there's a church/waterfall/viewpoint nearby but
it would have been SO much better if it also came with at least a
minimal description. The viamichelin ones seem to come complete with
their guides. Anyway, my fault but something for others to consider.
