I have a Magellan Gold, which I like except the 30 waypoints per route max
is a PITA when composing routes on PC prior to xferring. Is there a similar
unit (with pseudo mapping) which gives maybe 100 waypoints plus per route
and the ability to save routes to SD card or similar?
Ability to save to card means that you dont get caught with some other limit
such as the total no of waypoints and routes etc. I can work round it by
breaking up a days travel into several routes but I'd rather not have to do
that.

Although you can't save to card, how about the
Garmin Foretrex 101
You said "get caught with some other limit such as the total
no of waypoints and routes etc", perhaps the Foretrex has
enough waypoints, routes, trackpoints so you wouldn't get caught:
o 500 waypoints.
o 20 routes each with up to 125 waypoints.
o 10,000 track points

Thanks Dave, 125 waypoints /route would be much better than the Gold, but
500 in total is not enough. (only 4 days if 1 route per day). I am also
getting used to the (admittedly limited) mapping of the Gold which is great
for what I need and is missing on the foretrex's. I suppose I'll put up with
breaking days into multiple routes.

No, the 500 waypoint limit has nothing to do with tracks or routes.
Those are in separate memory. And several models of the eTrex series,
including the Legend, can hold 1,000 waypoints. These are completely
separate from track and route memory.

Sorry, dont understand that. If I have 5 routes, and each route contains 125
waypoints (all different) that would be 625 waypoints. Maximum waypoints
500=Problem.
