Decide what you are going to use it for first. Automobile, hiking,
flying etc. Then ask here what is the best for your specific purpose.

WAAS is nice to have.

Beyond that you must answer certain fundamental questions...

When you read from a GPS unit
Will you be
flying in the air? on a boat? in a land-based motor vehicle? on
foot?

What kind of
environmental conditions must the unit operate in?

Where will you be
in North America, Europe, Asia, or Australia?

What kind of
geographical information are you looking to retreive?

How long will you need a
GPS system to work between recharging?

The US military has the best GPS systems. They aren't available
to the general public.

But.. if you like better than 'average', Trimble makes some
good units you might be interested in.
