Other than a computer with map software, what other devices (like a PDA)
would a USB GPS Stick be used with? I'm trying to find a small device that
could be used for hikin n bikin with regular and/or topo map software.

You should be able to use a sony psp-linux with a usb stick?

other devices that can use gpsd will work.
(gpsd under linux)

I'm looking for some kind of moving map for topo myself.

I've used navit.sf.net, roadmap.* , roadnav.* , ... on a mini pc (linux)

My thought too... Suggestion the: Gisteq CD111 (also usable as a wired
GPS mouse)

Another thought would be a USB bluetooth adapter, and a bluetooth GPS.
Both of these devices can be used for a number of applications.
