Read a thread in here from 2001 that said the Garmin 12 was a very
user friendly, easy to use GPS.

The Garmin 12 has been discontinued.

What is today's recommendation?

I'm looking for one for my wife who is not real 'in tune' to gadgetry.

Thanks in advance.

The GPS would be used primarily for driving directions (finding
addresses while 'out of town'). I would be willing to reload the unit
depending on where she was travelling, so that the unit would not have
to store the entire United States at one time.

I see quite a number of Nuvi models, with quite a range of prices.
Any further advice?

The device would be used only occasionally, but the "useability" is
key (for my wife).

Thanks again.

Darrel,

I went to your website. I see you offer a lot of different units. Is
there anywhere I can go to see a comparison of features? That would
be most helpful.

Thanks.

That was then. This is now. Pretty-much every SatNav device made today
is more user-friendly than the Garmin 12. I recommend you go down to your
local showroom and fiddle with whatever they have on display. If your
wife can us a mobile phone she can probably use most SatNav devices I've
seen, at least for the basic postcode and get-me-home features.

Simon.
