I have not seen any good answers to how to turn off the tomtom one so
it does not KILL battery life.

If you noticed, when you got it from the store, you pressed the
button, and it turned on!
so why is it after you "turn it off" does it totally die after a short
time.

So, here you go,
it seems to work for me but I'll see in a few days...

1)-connect tomtom one to PC (I assume you are running the tomtom
software on the pc)
2)-say YES to the connect to pc question
3)-Wait and do not remove wire untill that picture warning goes away ..
10seconds or so...
4)-Pull out usb wire from the tomtom.
5)-The unit starts to REboot (ie the bar starts moving at the bottom
of the lcd)
7)-during that reboot process, press and HOLD the power button. after
a few seconds the screen goes solid Green, atleast for me. (Make sure
you start to press that button as soon as you see that bar filling up
at the bottom).

The unit is now OFF from what I can tell.
you must hold power for about 5 seconds for it to start again and then
it plays a drum sound ...

battery life should be as it was in the store ;)

Hope this helps someone.
