Just downloaded TomTom Home Version 2.1. Does not look as good as version
1. For instance only keeps one backup copy, deletes previous when making
new backup. I have two copies of my SD cards on Western Europe maps, one
with UK POIs on and one with EU POIs on. With version 1 I could do as many
backups as I want.

Also when downloading Speed Camera from pocketgpsworld it no longer has a
directory called "Content" when I used to put the cab and toc files.

The new maps just announce says that I must have TomTom Home Version 2 to
download the maps. Is this true?

Fortunately, I took the option not to remove version 1.5 so I could dump 2.1
providing I can download the new maps with 1.5.

Does anyone know why TomTom changed Home so much as I think that the new
version is not as easy to use and the original.

I don't know the ins and outs of the upgrade to version 2, but I find it
a lot more stable. Ver. 1.x used to hang almost every update and often
the downloaded TT files were corrupted and needed manual deletion before
2nd attempt. So far ver 2 has been AOK. You can still make a back-up
directly thru windows if you want, or keep the old version for back-up
and restore. You could find the back-up file in your windows system and
manually move it to a safe location if you have a critical set-up you
need to keep.

You do have to use it for the latest map downloads. My advice would be
to use it for that only. Make your won backups and copy POIs across
manually. Just as quick doing it yourself!
