I did a lot of research and reviewed several different GPS units and found
that the Sony NV-U94T was the device best suited for me and on sale for $199
at Radio Shack. But when I asked the sales guy for one to buy, he checked
and said Sony had discontinued them and they had none in stock. I went back
to the Sony website and sure enough, all of their units are discontinued. I
got in an online chat with a Sony sales rep and he said that they are not
manufacturing new units "at this time." I was very disappointed. I am
looking to replace a Magellan 3000T with ancient maps and locking up
problems and this Sony had all the features I wanted. I may go ahead and
buy it anyway (Amazon has them) as the maps are more current than what I
have now and just replace it in a few years when other manufacturers may
come up with a model I am happy with. (Sony discontinuing GPS device
manufacturing may be old news here but I thought I would post it just in
case.)

Have you tried a firmware update for your 300T to solve the lock up issue.
Also there is a newer map you can find all that here.

Thanks for the suggestions but I am current (the firmware and map update was
from 2007). And the maps are ancient. I think it is just time for a
change. I am so disappointed with the Sony situation!

And if you buy one will you get any support if something goes wrong. And
what about map updates. Seems there will be a lot of upset people.

In my online chat with Sony, they directed me to Navteq regarding future map
availability. So I emailed Navteq and got this reply:

Currently Sony does utilize our map databases however we do not produce nor
distribute discs for their systems at this time. For information please
contact Sony directly at http://www.sony.com/nav-u . If sony stops making
updates for their system, NAVTEQ will not make updates on their behalf, we
apologies for any inconveniences.

The Sony site shows a map update will be released in April, 2009 but that is
questionable now I suppose.
