Hi
I am new to GPS and wondering if anyone can advise.
I would like to be able to save routes I have traveled to a file and
then be able to import them back into a GPS device for future use.
What hardware does anybody recommend? Can a GPS enabled mobile phone
do this or would I need a "Garmin" type device?
Thanks
Roger
This feature may be avilable on the "SATNAV" type uints but I have not seen
it. I do have it on my Mio C520 but only when running OziExplorer mapping
software to effectively make it a "Garmin" type GPS.
The expnsive Hema units probably have the feature as they can switch modes
as a feature of how they operate, these are expensive though.
Given the same conditions the SATNAV unit would usually choose the same
route anyway.
Cheers.

If you are talking about 'automotive' units (i.e. gps units that are used to
navigate in a car) then the answer is yes. My StreetPilot (now discontinued)
will do that. You can calculate a route between two points and then save it
on the unit for future use, or you can devise your own route using waypoints
and save that. Up to 50 routes can be saved. You can connect the unit to a PC
or Mac with a USB cable and transfer all your saved routes to the computer.
Modern Garmin Nuvis seem to be less capable in that area but I think the Nuvi
5** , 7**, and 8** series can save up to 10 routes. THe Zumos can save 50
like the StreetPilots
Many of the handheld units will make a tracklog of a route which you can
afterwards save in the same way.

I am using a phone running Windows Mobile 6.1 and iGO. It can save and
re-use routes, the only limitation is the size of the memory card you
use.

Thanks everybody for your input, the Mobile phone with iGo sounds
particularly interesting.
Can the routes be exported to a PC, if so what format?
