Hi all,

Just want to get your thoughts on whether this is the right software to be
buying:

The device is an eTrex Vista (mono - not the colour model) and I am
looking for the best software to use for street navigation in Australia.

I am looking at getting the "Mapsource Metroguide version 4.0" as the
newer, more expensive "City Navigator Australia v6" does not appear to be
compatibile with the older eTrex Vista (although it will work with the
Vista C).

Am I looking at this correctly? Have I missed anything? Just don't want
to throw away good money if it's not the right thing to buy.

Thanks in advance,

Mick

Metroguide does not usually have autorouting, but will show a direct route
between 2 points, whereas City Select will calculate the route using
existing roads.

If autorouting is desirable for your purpose, you need City Select, and an
instrument that is compatible with same.

Dennis.

MapSource MetroGuide Australia - AU$175

It is 48 MB for all of Australian and about 16 MB for NSW

Expect it to take about an hour to load the 24 MB of memory in your
eTrek Vista via serial cable.

Don't forget to get your "free" copy of MAPS4AUSTRALIA as well. There
are some excellent regional mapping it that as well.
