When 911 gets a display on their screen of a phone's coordinates, or
when the 911 phone system gets whatever location info from their
database, what's the most reasonable system out there to get that info
out to an emergency responder's vehicle?
We know there're many knucklehead ways to do it, so let's ignore
those. And maybe also ignore those who have Pentagon budgets, too,
please?
What systems are there that are simple & cheap enough for general FD
or PD use?

That's a big help. Thanks tons!
If you call 911 with a GPS enabled phone and fairly precise
coordinates show up in their system, how do those coordinates get
transferred to the responders?
Just reading them off into the radio mic while someone punches them
into a GPS sounds too primitive - and for anyone who's done that, they
already know it's prone to big errors.

My point is that there may be no "standard coordinates format"
that's used by everybody. That's why asking makes sense.

I would have thought that wgs84 lat/lon would be an acceptable
standard to plan for in such a system.
I haven't done a survey, but most gps devices I have seen are set to
provide these co-ords unless altered by user selection.
If I were to design an emergency response system, this is where I'd
start, and make all components comply where possible.
