Hi,
Using a Garmin 76csx and CityNav 7, I've created many routes in my local
area. If I enter and follow a route from it's beginning, it will direct me
correctly to my destination.
My problem; if I enter a route at any point other than the it's beginning,
the software will continually try to take me back to the start of the route
rather than my destination.
I've been using GPS for a long time and with earlier units, when you entered
a route at any point other than the start, the unit would guide you to the
destination from the point at which you entered.
Anyone have an idea as to how to work around this? What setting am I
missing?
TIA,
Kevin

I have no idea why your software is behaving as you describe. I use City
Navigator all the time with my 2610, and it does as you would expect. If you
join a route half way along, it will ignore any via points or waypoints that
are already passed, and simply continue directing you towards the
destination.
I don't think it can be anything to do with the CN mapping software. Are you
sure that you are actually giving the gps unit a proper route? How did you
create your routes? It seems as though your unit is treating your 'route' as
if it were just a series of waypoints, and calculating a route of its own
that passes through them all.

The routes are good. I'm thinking there may be a setting that's different
from yours. I'm going to try and reach Garmin this morning and If i get any
info on this, I'll post it.
Thanks,
Kevin

something more odd about your set-up than a simple difference in the
settings.
On my unit up to 50 routes can be stored. Each route will consist of (1) a
start point, (2) a destination, and (3) optionally any number of via points
in between (1) and (2). The via points must be arranged in a specific order
since the route will always take you from one via to the next, in whatever
order they are stored. If the via points are not arranged in the correct
order the route can become quite chaotic and could well try to take you back
to the start at some point.
Perhaps something like this is going on with your unit? Anyway I'd be
interested to know what Garmin have to say about it.

I don't have Garmin 76csx to know what feature Garmin removes, but I can
tell you that the StreetPilot 2610 has many neat features many newer models
don't have. And same with my Nuvi 680, it doesn't store the routes so you
can't go back to the same route's. You can't create and upload the route to
Nuvi either because Garmin has this feature and many others removed.
