Does Google Earth run maps downloaded to the PC or these are maps from a
server. And the question is if an area gets updated will the update be seen
immediately from a server - or we would have to wait until new maps are
downloaded to PC?
mac
They download from the server as you zoom in etc. Any update should be
seen immediately afaik.

Google Earth uses a significant cache on you computer to store
downloaded images - see Tools/Options/Cache panel. I'd hope that it
checks that the image in the cache is the latest before using it but
you never know. There are options on the panel to Clear or Delete the
cache (?) as well as change it's size.

Maps stored on Google's servers. Updates are so rare (less than one a
year) that you really don't care about them.
