I noticed that my "new" street which is 7 years old isn't displayed in
the most current version of City Navigator v8 as seen on the map
viewer on the Garmin site. But then I happened to check the Navteq
site (www.navteq.com) and found that my road *is* there on their data
(using their map viewer).
This got me thinking that perhaps Garmin isn't providing all of the
most current data available from Navteq but I can't understand why
that would be the case.
Has anyone else checked this or have information about this. It's
unfortunate because I could basically go buy an upgrade disk for my
OEM navigation system in my car directly from Navteq which is more
current and accurate than the one in my new Streetpilot. That isn't
what I bargained for.
What's going on?

The question would be exactly when the street first appeared in
NavTeq's database.
If you're referring to CN-NA, then the current version came out last
summer and presumably Garmin got a data download from NavTeq sometime
slightly earlier. So the data in that version is now almost a year
older than NavTeq's current database. The next version is likely to
come out this summer.

Unless you're planning on paying for new upgrade disks every few
months you're always going to have the problem that the disk you have
isn't completely up-to-date; and frequent updates quickly run into
quite a few $$s. Eventually we'll probably go to a system that's
updated automatically through a wireless connection, but 100% map
reliability is still unlikely to be achieved.

I noticed the same thing recently when I upgraded from Metroguide NA
version 6 (2004 NAVTEQ data) to Metroguide NA version 8 in order to get
maps that include all the construction that occurred in my area in late
2005. Unfortunately, the version 8 maps only have NAVTEQ 2005 data. So I
wasted my money on the update.

Hello,
I now using GARMIN Map products for sevaral years. I never upgrade to any
new version of the map before carefully checking the areas I am using. I
only buy the update if I observe significant map update in my area.
This is my advise ; " before losing any gold coins into the next upgrade,
check on the GARMIN Web site if your area has been updated by using the
Mapsource Map Viewer" ( http://www.garmin.com/cartography/ ) . Not every map
areas are updated at each new NavTech map version. Updating all area of the
whole map (European or American) may takes at least a few couple of years.
