Last week I bought the Vista Cx and this is a very nice little unit. I
only have one problem that I have not been able to solve. Tracks can be
saved on the microsd card as gpx format files, which provides pretty
much unlimited storage and a complete daily log, but I cannot work out
how to transfer them to my PC.

There is nothing in the manual that came with the unit. The Vista Cx
manual on the Garmin web site has a section on p.68 describing the
interface setup and transfer, but this setup is not available on my
unit. I thought that the new USB drivers might automatically recognize
the unit as having removable storage but I have tried both a Windows
2000 and XP with no success.

Has anyone had any success transferring the saved files from the microsd
card?

Okay - I solved my own problem.

After reading the release notes I see the interface setup was introduced
in the recently released release v2.50. After updating the microsd is
fully visible as removable storage.

In addition, if you put the microSD card in a card reader/burner (you'll
need a microSD to SD adapter to do it) you can see the card as a
removable drive under Windows and you see the *.gpx files on the card.

If you turn on the autosave feature, it will create a new file each day
and that files contains the current track data (from memory).

I've looked at the saved track files and the autosave track files using
the GPS Utility software it will show you all the track details in a
list form, plotted on a blank map, or even plotted over a map image if
you have one.

Thanks for the pointer to GPS Utility. I tried it out but found it
would not read the files directly from the Garmin. If I copy them to a
folder on the PC then I can open each file individually, but the trial
version is memory limited. I have found EasyGPS to be useful program.
Also the supplied Garmin Mapsource programs opens GRX files and overlays
them on the standard maps. I guess everyone has their preferences.

After looking at the fancy mash-up of Google maps with way points
geocaching.com, it should be fairly simple to build a gpx viewer/editor
overlaid on Google maps. I wonder if anyone has done this yet?
