The Oregon and Colorado units have had a very high
return rate. They are basically aimed at people
not interested in learning the details of using a
GPS, in other words kind of dumbed-down units.

Yes Brian, your opinion is supported by several reviews I have been
reading
on the Oregon series. Generally speaking, many people think Garmin
second generation GPSrs
(60xxx and 76xx series) are still better for at least a couple of
reasons: the better brilliance of
the screen and the higher precision of the SirfStar III chips of those
devices.
Although there is general agreement that the screen is definitely
brighter than CO/OR series,
the better precision is still questionable.
Finally, many "old school" GPS people do not like the "cartoon"
interface of the CO/OR series, finding
it too much for dummies and definitely less flexible of previous
devices.
Personally I like different aspects of the Oregon:
1) Being usable both off- and on-road (is this still true with the
60xx or 76xx ??)
2) The touch screen. Ok, that could be a problem in very cold
environments or in the middle of a blizzard, but I personally will use
this device walking/driving in the cities, or on the trails, hopefully
with more than acceptable weather conditions.
3) The higher resolution of the OR compared to both the 60xx or 76xx

Now, and believe me I do not mean to be rude in any way, might you
show me why exactly Oregon devices
"are basically aimed at people
not interested in learning the details of using a
GPS, in other words kind of dumbed-down units."

and why 60xx or 76xx are more flexible ?

I thought much about the matter but could not find definitive
answers...

Diego

For use in the UK the 60xx / 76xx series are not compatible with the new OS
based GB discover maps, this seems to put them at a serious disadvantage
