Garmin GPS 60csx
Is there any way to avoid having insert the CDROM every time
you want the data read/written to the 60csx? It insists on it,
even after I copied all the CDs to the C:\ drive.
I don't want to needlessly wear out the CDROM drive.
Anyone got it to successfully read the MapSource data from the hard
drive?
P.S. my version is the one before 2008 MapSource.
dropped the following oil-slick:
the hard drive then installing from there?

What do you mean "copied all the CDs"? And what map product are you
using? Not the version of MapSource, but the name and version of the
map product itself.
The current versions of City Navigator have an option to install all
the data onto your PC's internal storage so you never have to use the
distribution media again.

YES and NO depending on what you do at your end.
YES, if you install a complete CD to computer
NO, if you just copy to hard drive (just a waste of disk space but doing
nothing).

The laser never touch the CD's surface so you don't have to worry about
wearing out (except scratching it). And you can always make a copy of the
CD

Most people do. Read the solution above

It's v8 then.

There are moving bits in the CD drive itself though such as the main
bearing which presumably wear out eventually.
