I have a question regarding the accuracy of the Garmin 76S. I have
loaned the unit to a friend who needed it for a couple of weeks to do
audits on cell phone towers. The readings that he is given by his
company are the same as those list listed in the FCC tower registry.
My friend went to the site the readings were off compared to the FCC
filings. Here is an example. He was give the street address and was
able to find the site with no problem. The FCC readings are 41.4197
and -81.7134. The readings from the GPS are 41.25171 and -81.42819.
This is miles off. What are we doing wrong? Does the unit need to be
calibrated? How about a hard reset? If so how do we do a hard rest as
I am not sure of the buttons to hold when the power is turned on.

Is he sure he was reading the display correctly and that those numbers
from the GPS may not have been:
41° 25.171' & -81° 42.819' ; i.e. positions in deg/min format rather
than just degrees. Since there are 60 minutes per degree, those
coordinates are equivalent to:
41.4195° & -81.7137° which are pretty close to the FCC values.
Change the 'Location Format' on the 76S to HDDD.ddddd° and it'll be
consistent with his FCC tables.
