If your cache is set large enough you can "save" lots of GE data for
use when you don't have a connection.

The topo maps are outdated but you can pre download the needed maps as I do
before camping trips.

The program is ~ $60 but the maps are free.

Also the Satellite maps are free and you can scan and use other maps.

To go first class, the PN-40 GPS from Delorme includes very much better maps
with routing and the ability to pre download Satellite maps and others at a
cost.

The entire USA is provided with Topo 8 on DVD which is included in the ~
$400 price.
