I am wondering why GPS units haven't come down in price? There can't be
anymore to manufacturing them than a PC, and the prices have come down on
them drastically. Is it supply and demand? It seems some models (brands)
have held the $700 - $900 price for several years with not much change.

Some seem to have stayed in that price range, especially if you want
features like bluetooth capability, but others like the Tomtom go 300
are definitely less than that, especially if you take advantage of a
rebate offer or sales... I am curious to see how prices change over
the next few years because I think people will want GPSes more and
more...

Give it another year. I think the prices will drop, and good used ones
should be available by then at bargain prices.

Garmin frequently reduces prices on their GPS's.

The price of GPS's has come down...BUT, we are all wanting more features
so the average spend has stayed about the same... a few examples:

My first GPS garmin 45 (approx 1993) .... no mapping, no Dif or WAAS,
List $995, net (After on the market for a year) $ 495.
My Second GPS garmin 75 (Approx 1997) Mapping (G-charts) Diff-$200
extra, List about $995 and Net about $600.
My Third GPS Garmin 2006 Approx 2000 Mapping, HUGE screen, (for it's
day), downloadable charts List $1995, net $1700.... At this time you
could get the same unit with a much smaller screen without color for
about $500.
My Fourth GPS... Garmin Legend.(2003).. $199.... Similar to the Garmin
75 feature set + WAAS and downloadable maps
My Fifth GPS (for the car) Color, ALL THE USA ON MAPS, WAAS c340
$800 list approx 600 net. 8 years ago, the charts alone would of cost
more that that.

So... I continue to pay a similar amount, BUT I get LOTS more features...
