I am looking for comments on which stand along Garmin, Cobra, etc., cell
phone gps nav software like loopt, VZ Navigator etc.
That will allow for an easy toggle to display lat/long on screen or turn
on lat/long display on screen with the address.
Not interested in NEMA output. Need the lat/long on screen and still be
able to nav to an address.
Appears most of the units suppress this data or only output it on USB or
serial in NEMA mode, I need to get it on screen in lower cost consumer
devices.
Any input welcome.
Thanks.

Garmin Quest or Quest II will navigate and display Lat Long
simultaneously. The Quests can display a map and up to 4 different side
panels with various values such as distance to final, distance to next,
time to final, distance to next, etc. One of the values you can select
is a continous Lat Long display. Be aware, the lat long figures are
rather small in the display box.

Thanks, but the Quest and Quest II are discontinued products. I am

looking for something that is available now and at least for 1-2 years
from now that supports this.

Your best choice for that would be one of the handhelds like the 60 or
76 Cx or CSx or one of the higher end eTrex models that is a mapping GPS
and that has an "x" (signifying it can use external memory cards) in the
model name. I would prefer the 60/76 over the eTrex because it has a
slightly larger display.
With those you can always see the lat/long of the fix on the satellite
page and it can also be configured to display in a user controlled (for
data box size, on, off, and data type) data box on many of the other
pages.
Some will want to argue the point but the 60/76 Cx and CSx are also a
good choice for use in a car with street and highway mapping as long as
you can live without some of the less than essential features like
spoken directions and turning prompts.
You just have to learn how to use the Active Route and Turn Preview
pages, along with the warning tones, and you'll have all the same visual
clues and specifics of information that you would get with any of the
200 or 300 series and similar sized displays. You'll get some beeps and
squawks for warnings, and the navigation info you see will be displayed
nearly as large as, and just as informative as, the pop-up navigation
prompts that show up for maneuvers on the normal sized dash mounts.
And you'd have a receiver that can run all day on two AA cells (or use
local DC power) and that is easily removed for use on foot or in other
places (planes, boats, on foot, etc.). It will also be capable of
nearly unlimited recording of track details for up to days or weeks on
end. The last 10,000 trackpoints could be seen on the GPS receiver, all
of the details would be available for post facto use off of the GPS
receiver.
In short, you would have what is arguably the world's most versatile GPS
receiver. Albeit, one without a lot of the not essential to navigation,
non-navigation, and brain candy features that are built into many of the
newer dash mounted units.

I'm curious how you intend to use a lat/log display - apparently &
especially while moving (if I read you correctly).
Even static lat/long is problematic - too many ways for humans to
screw it up, pencil or voice. Or maybe I just hang with too many
dummies...
