When I try to unlock it, I get this error below, even after I
reinstalled it.
BTW, where is the key located anyway? I cannot find it anywhere on the
package, unless it's also the serial number on the shrink wrap.

It is a 25 digit number.
I think you have to go online to register, then you enter your serial
number, and it gives you the code. Not sure on that though.

I received my Garmin yesterday and have the same issue.
I downloaded the newest version of MapSource and I receive that error
no more.

However for unlocking I'm required to submit some 7 or 8 digit code
which I haven't found in my package :-(

I had the same problem.
Uninstall Mapsource.
Open registry (with "regedit")
Search for Garmin and delete every key (backup your registry first)
If done so, install Mapsource again...
