Little yellow thing with a USB cable, came in a box of random cables. Lights up
when I plug it in, so I guess some part of it works. When I tried to install it
it demanded grmnusb.sys before it would proceed. Can't find it at the Garmin
site. Phoenix DriverAgent claims to have it.

Are these people reliable/useful? I know, free trial, but I hesitate to
download anything to the windows machine without knowing the company.

The Earthmate is not a Garmin device, it is a DeLorme device. Maybe
this driver will make it work:

http://www.delorme.com/support/supporttemplate.aspx?id=319

You don't mention the model, if that is marked on it you can find more
info through this link:

http://www.delorme.com/support/search.aspx

DeLorme probably has a proprietary NMEA data protocol, if you are not
using that with DeLorme mapping software you might not be able to use
the NMEA data or it might require the receiver to be reconfigured for a
stand NMEA output.

Wow, that was fast! Thanks! Downloaded, I'll try that tomorrow...

Just an Earthmate USB, no number. It's listed there...

Just download the Garmin USB driver direct from Garmin.

That may be even simpler, thanks!
