Brad Parkinson, speaking from the Joint Navigation Conference,
emphasized that he is =93a strong supporter of GPS IIF continuing for
the first 12 vehicles.=94
=93The GPS World interpretation of my remarks to GAO has created some
misunderstandings. I wish to make it clear that I am a strong
supporter of GPS IIF continuing for the first 12 vehicles. The next
subsequent step is IIIA, which will meet the modernized requirements
of additional signal power, the new international signal and rapid
updates using OCX. I am definitely not in favor of abandoning the IIF
line, which we desperately need. I have been a strong and constructive
supporter of solving the IIF problems and, as rapidly as prudent,
launching them to meet the Air Force need for space assets.=94
