I just answered your other post re: laptop software.

In most cases, yes you can. The MS receiver connects via USB and provides
standard NMEA data.

Like ALL USB NMEA receivers, it uses a software driver to convert USB data
to serial data. (It creates a pseudo COMM port). Just about all GPS
applications use NMEA serial data.
