I have been trying to find software that will allow me to
upload/download tracks and waypoints to my Magellan eXplorist 400. I
have their Topo Canada maps, but they don't work directly with the
eXplorist, and the instructions they give for converting don't work. GPS
TrackMaker was recommended by a friend, but it wants my eXplorist to be
on a serial port. There doesn't seem to be any way to get it to look for
the USB connection, even though the website claims it will, at least
for Garmin. Any ideas, or other software that can do the job? Thanks.
I use Mapsend Lite from the Magellan site and with my 600, I would expect it
to work with the 400 just the same.

I tried MapSend Lite, but it was looking for .imi files. The Topo Canada

v1.00e that I received with my wilderness Bundle will, as far as can
tell, only output .img format.

You need Mapsend Topo Canada v1.50. It works with all eXplorists.
v1.50 comes on the disc included in the eXplorist package. You need
to activate it over the internet using a credit card after you install
it on your computer.
If you don't have the original CD, you can order it from Magellan.
It costs $49.99, (which is quite a bit less than I paid for it 2 years
ago).

I already paid extra for the maps, why should I have to pay again?
Magellan should have packaged a product that works. I can't even use
their converters to change the file format, because the MSTC outputs the
wrong format for the converters. I am about to investigate Mobilemapper,
which apparently can do the job. I will keep you posted.
