Hi,
Looking to purchase GPS for car. Many options out there, probably go for
Tom Tom or Garmin.

Of course the best GPS is of no use without the best maps.

Who of all the GPS makers has the best maps for Australia?

The brand of GPS is not really important but the best and most accurate
map for Australia coverage is.

Thanks
Oliver Fleming

Garmin just came out with City Navigator Australia v7. I would suggest
that you look at the Nuvi series. It's really nice.

You probably don't realise that all the car navigation GPS devices/GPS
software available for Australia uses the same map data from Sensis
(although maps are of course not interchangeable). The only exception
is Destinator.

Also, Sensis V13 2006 maps have just been released or about to be
released for the various manufacturers, so the more important factor
in your purchase is to make sure that your GPS comes with it, or you
are given a written guarantee that you can upgrade for free when
released.

I believe the new TomTom 710 and 910 comes with V13 maps, but the
TomTom One at present, doesn't.

The Garmin CityNavigator Australia labeled the source of the data, Sensis,
Telstra, Whereis, and some other name that I can't make out... Stupid
stylized logos ;-(

You could look at some coverage on http://www.whereis.com

It has been loaded into a GPSMap76cs, but not tested on site, yet, although
a couple of known points are where they are supposed to be.
