Has anyone seen these symptoms? Garmin has not responded to my email yet (over
one week).

My GPSMAP 60Cx shuts down on its own when a certain menu path is followed. I've
owned the 60Cx for about 2 weeks and it is running release 3.30 of the unit
software and release 2.90 of the chipset software. (Those are both the most
recent available.)

I am using a 2GB microSD card on the unit, which is loaded with one region of
the BlueCharts Americas maps and the entire MetroGuide USA Version 5 (a total of
about 1GB in use on the microSD card).

Here is the sequence that causes a shutdown:

1. Power on the unit.
2. Navigate to the Map page.
3. Press the Find button.
4. Press the ENTER button when on the "Addresses" icon.
5. Scroll down to the <Enter City> field and press the ENTER button.
6. Press the Menu button, a menu with the two choices "Find by Name" and "Select
Map" is displayed.
7. Scroll down to the "Select Map" item and press the ENTER button - the unit
display fades and powers off.

Choosing "Select Map" through other menu paths successfully displays a list of
maps that are available to use; it just seems to be the path listed above that
fails.

I have the 60CSx which uses the same unit software and - I believe - chipset
software.
Also with versions 3.30 and 2.90.
When I follow your sequence things differ at step 6, I only get the "Find by
Name" option, no "Select Map" option is displayed.
Hence I cannot reproduce your syptoms.
Maybe you should try to reset your unit, I don't think the "Select Map"
option should be displayed at that stage.

Thanks for the reply. The "Select Map" appears in step 6 because there are
several map "types" loaded onto the unit
that are available for searching (MetroGuide and BlueChart).

I have different map types installed on my unit too, City select Europe and
various topo's.
I'm not sure what makes a certain map set a different "type" compared to the
next map set but I think above mentioned map sets qualify as different types
as well. In other words I don't think that's making the difference in
options in step 6.
The fact that the option "Select Map" literally leads nowhere seems to
indicate that it should not be there in the first place.
At step 6 you have already entered a list of cities, why would you need the
possibility to select a map from there?

Rather than speculating why a "Select Map" menu item is here versus there, I'm
just looking for a solution to my problem. The unit shuts down abnormally and
that is a defect, plain and simple. As I mentioned in the original post, there
are other menu paths in the 60Cx menu system in which the "Select Map" menu item
is displayed.

Regarding the question "why would you need the possibility to select a map from
there," it's because the only cities listed before I try to select a map are
those cities that are physically near my current GPS location. I'm trying to
find a city 3000 miles away, and the city of interest doesn't show up via the
standard Find menu.

Rather than beating the "menu item shouldn't be there" horse, back to my
original inquiry: Does anyone else experience these symptoms? Thanks.
